yes I've found that to be true in win98 when I used jaws on that machine.
I'm intending to remove jfw8 on here now as I have three versions of jaws,
8, 9 and now 10, the current one. I've wondered whether I will have the
same problem when I take jaws 8 off. Interesting you brought this up.

Alex has answered you, but I find that if I get a new version of jaws and
then want to use an older one for some reason, or if I delete an old version
and try to reload a newer one, then the checkbox to start automatically is
always unchecked.
No idea why this happens, but it is scary when nothing speaks to you.

Hi Joan
go into options in jaws, basics. You have to tab past tutor messages
and access keys combos until you hear run jaws automatically check box.
Check it if it is unchecked.
Jaws should start up automatically now when you next boot up.
