we need to find out if this is a hardware or software problem. When you get
this problem with JAWS speech, does it happen with other things e.g. when
playing music or with Windows sounds? if so then I think George's answer
that it is a hardware or mechanical problem is probably ncorrect otherwise
it could indeed be software.

Cheers

Defrag' might help? Start menu , Accessories submenu, System Tools submenu,
arrow to disc defragmentor.

Hope this isn't too much egg-sucking info - it's what I'd try, but that
proves nothing. Have had this problem before, though, and defrag' usually
frightens it into at least temporary submition ;)
