Subject: [jaws-uk] Smart Phone Help, was OCR, reading mail
Hi Amie,
Regarding Seeing AI, although it is only on iOS for now, Microsoft did a
survey a while ago to se if there was any interest in having it on Android
devices. I don't know the outcome of the survey. Google are releasing
their own software later this year similar to Seeing AI, which will be
called Lookout.
For help and info about smart phones, I suggest you join the Blind Phones
list. There are other lists just for Android or just for the iPhone, but
the Blind Phones list is for any smart phone discussions so you can get help
and advice whichever platform you choose.
Here's the Welcome Message that subscribers receive.

Hi Graham
No, I'm still on an old little phone. Am promising myself to switch but
don't have the time to be brought to a halt while I learn the touchscreen
thing. Recently saw a Capsys but even the guy demoing it was very unsure of
how to work it, so I decided to wait another few months until I might learn
it from someone with confidence themselves. I am fairly good with tech
really, but wish it was possible to learn the smart phone stuff without
having to make it into my actual telephone. I'm happy with a phone that
phones and texts. Clearly smart phones have way more to offer, but the
touch screen makes it so touch and go (no pun intended).
Sorry this is a little o-t; I'd love more advice re phones though,
especially how and where to get proper amounts of good quality help in
learning to use them.
Thanks

Hi Amie.
No. it's iphone or nothing as far as seeing eye goes but there are some
useful programs that run under Android I believe.
Have you already got a smartphone?

Graham

If there's a way to use Seeing Eye without buying an Iphone then I'd also
love to know about it.
Thanks

Do you know where you can get the camera from to use seeing eye as I cannot
cope with iphones? All I heard was it was something like FS Canera.
