Ah but you are lucky I know and you have sighted help around. remember Lizzie Tiddy Lizzie Chocoholic she was taking A levels and her school said she was a Whizz on computers. She came several times and during the whole time couldn't reset the View menu in OE, they use things like Hot Mail, I paid her too and of she shot off holiday to Brazil and I paid her a fiver an hour also. Jaws transmogrifies them and as for Lunar they gasp, so what they maylearn! Now this bit is not Jaws related but it is a Saturday, the dirt and filth caused by the Landslip created by next door was a bit much kind friend lends me her cleaner for 2 hours on Tuesday. She went after 2 hours and I spent 8 hours looking for an important letter ,8 hours of my time against 2 of hers! No I will do it myself, do you tiddy? Wasn't it yu who said you only make tea and wash up Oh well never mind I will get by, although I have hoovered a sock up and the machine is impossible to open Regards Dorothy

Regards Dorothy a bit of tea making now and washing up!

have sight loss or a family member go blind.

I admit my son leaves Jaws running when he's sorting things out for me,
but he knows generally what he's doing, and my input clarrifies other
points with Jaws' foibles.
But if the sighted person doesn't know the beast, shut it down.

but you cannot tell what the heck they are doing, and that is awful. I
noted
Tony Berry RNib Volunteer now lapping up life in France didn't know
Jaws or
any screen reader but for my sake he towards the end didn't turn Jaws
off
ever, mind you that poor Tony truly hated Jaws, he said " It lies all
the
time you cannot believe a thing it says" there was a reason for that
however
Jana's was telling Fibs because it couldn't work well in Monochrome
by
which I mean Jaws saw all White Text on a black background as Selected
or
highlighted text and as a result didn't treat it normally, I had to go
the
long long road Mike to get to the bottom of that and Dr Lee Hamilton's
on
the Bigwigs at Freedom my cousin who is sighted once sent I looked
over
the Corporate Line up and saw all the things and things Dr Hamilton
had
done and I thought that is the one to ask so I made a tape rerecording
and
he could hear and he asked Bryan carver Director of Technical support
to
run trials, and do them again with Magic and the Bryan carver phoned me
from
St Petersburg and spilled the beans, it seems in times past say
Windows
98 and before Jaws would work that way but as it became more
sophisticated
it really became more a product for totally blind people but this was
not
stated. I then set about finding a way myself tried to get a man to
make a
Switching box to invert the screen, he tried and failed then a Pal on
Jaws
list knew a way and that was Lunar. I am not saying it is easy it is
not it
is blood sweat and tears Mike but having gone so far I m not throwing
in
the towel If I had know in the beginning that the first computer I ever

bought in my life would put me through such an ordeal would I have
chosen
it? No of course not, if I had known what an ordeal I would go through
I
would have jumped of the Pier in herne Bay, Ok I know you lost it Mike
I mean your Pier .

Hello Angel,

The answer to your question is yes! because JAWS is a designated screen
reader it does not relate to what appears on the screen especially when
the
internet is concerned.

So yes, turn off JAWS when it is not required. Whilst JAWS is reading
the
screen the sighted person will experience the screen jumping all over
the
place.

I hope this answers your question.

With best wishes,

Mike.

Just what is the relationship between how jaws reads and what appears
on
the screen. My children have always turned off Jaws when they used my
computer. They told me because I listen to Jaws at an extremely fast
pace
they were unable to read what they chose. They said they could read
better
and scroll better with jaws off. Is this true?
