Hallo againI think what depressed me most of all today although it was success after 2
years of trying to get the right Driver for my desktop was that in the end it was necessary for 2 sighted skilful people using a mouse and Jaws off to do it, I could hear "look for the small bubble and picture of man on racing bike, it meant that at neither end could any Vip do the job. Regarding Visitors I rather think Forms Mode is aprotective mesure , but if as was said on the list in the last few days is that what Jaws is saying is not related to what is being displayed on a screen I had not realised that before. I always said to them learn Windows key strokes anyway. A lady at my local Bank is not Vip she uses a computer all day but never touches a mouse it hurts her wrist, so I suppose if I asked Virginiaat bank to try a Jaws Demo she would be lost, I had not understood that before

hi sam I prefer to tell the them to turn off the speakers rather than jaws completely then there can be no problems getting jaws back. kaz----- Original Message ----- From: "Sam EDMUNDS" <edmunds22@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, March 29, 2008 3:11 PM Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: Should Jaws be turned off when sighted people use our computers?I usually tell sighted people to turn Jaws off if they're using my pc because it tends to confuse them. I just have to make sure I tell them to turn it back on before they leave otherwise I'm totally stuck! But if the sighted person doesn't know the beast, shut it down. -----Original Message----- From: jaws-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jaws-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Dorothy Ingram-Gorban Sent: 28 March 2008 22:20 To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: Should Jaws be turned off when sighted people use our computers? but you cannot tell what the heck they are doing, and that is awful. I noted Tony Berry RNib Volunteer now lapping up life in France didn't know Jaws or any screen reader but for my sake he towards the end didn't turn Jaws off ever, mind you that poor Tony truly hated Jaws, he said " It lies all the time you cannot believe a thing it says" there was a reason for that however Jana's was telling Fibs because it couldn't work well in Monochrome by which I mean Jaws saw all White Text on a black background as Selected or highlighted text and as a result didn't treat it normally, I had to go the long long road Mike to get to the bottom of that and Dr Lee Hamilton's on the Bigwigs at Freedom my cousin who is sighted once sent I looked over the Corporate Line up and saw all the things and things Dr Hamilton had done and I thought that is the one to ask so I made a tape rerecording and he could hear and he asked Bryan carver Director of Technical support to run trials, and do them again with Magic and the Bryan carver phoned me from St Petersburg and spilled the beans, it seems in times past say Windows 98 and before Jaws would work that way but as it became more sophisticated it really became more a product for totally blind people but this was not stated. I then set about finding a way myself tried to get a man to make a Switching box to invert the screen, he tried and failed then a Pal on Jaws list knew a way and that was Lunar. I am not saying it is easy it is not it is blood sweat and tears Mike but having gone so far I m not throwing in the towel If I had know in the beginning that the first computer I ever bought in my life would put me through such an ordeal would I have chosen it? No of course not, if I had known what an ordeal I would go through I would have jumped of the Pier in herne Bay, Ok I know you lost it Mike I mean your Pier .----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Pannell" <pianoman@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, March 28, 2008 9:32 PM Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: Should Jaws be turned off when sighted people use our computers? Hello Angel, The answer to your question is yes! because JAWS is a designated screen reader it does not relate to what appears on the screen especially when the internet is concerned. So yes, turn off JAWS when it is not required. Whilst JAWS is reading the screen the sighted person will experience the screen jumping all over the place. I hope this answers your question. With best wishes, Mike.----- Original Message ----- From: Angel238To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, March 28, 2008 8:45 PM Subject: [jaws-uk] Should Jaws be turned off when sighted people use our computers? Just what is the relationship between how jaws reads and what appears on the screen. My children have always turned off Jaws when they used my computer. They told me because I listen to Jaws at an extremely fast pace they were unable to read what they chose. They said they could read better and scroll better with jaws off. Is this true?
