No the shortcut key wasn't going in at all and I did check after pressing apply
just in case.
OK ... have now solved the problem and now have it working. After putting in
the shortcut key combination i.e. pressing the letter j to get control+alt+j I
used shift+tab to cycle round to the apply button. Then when I hit apply it
went back to none.
I've discovered shift+tab was the problem! I've since tried putting in the
shortcut key and then just pressing tab to ghet to the apply button. Cycling
around to the apply button by just pressing tab solve the problem. The shortcut
didn't disappear when I pressed apply and I could then save it. All done.
Although as far as I'm concerned or as I understand it shift+tab and tab do the
same thing, but in this instance it made a difference.
Many thanks - Sue.

Hi Sue, Not sure if you've resolved this but sometimes, although JAWS reads
'None', there is actually a shortcut key in there. So might be worth testing if
it actually works after you apply. HTH.

OK, thanks. I do have another version of JAWS but don't have a shortcut setup
on it.
I've tried several combinations and most recently tried control+alt+k.
I can get the shortcut to appear in the edit shortcut box but when I press
apply it goes back to none.
I don't seem to be able to save it.
Many thanks - Sue.

Do you have any other versions of Jaws on that machine because the default
conbination is the one you are trying so it may be the case that because
another version already has that combination the version you want won't allow
you to set it.

Ismail.

I'm pressing the key combination that I require in the box. When I review the
screen with JAWS the shortcut is definitely shoing. When I press apply, it then
goes back to none. The shortcut won't save.
Many thanks - Sue.

Hi Sue,
Are you pressing the shortcut key combination or typing it out in the field?
You should Apologies if you already know this, you should be pressing the
shortcut key combination & not typing out the schortcut key combination in the
field. Also have you tried another shortcut combination such as CTRL + ALT + K?
HTH.

I think ages ago I had an issue with saving shortcuts and if I
remember correctly the problem was resolved by checking that my
keyboard settings were set to United Kingdom, mine were set toUS by
default for some reason and once set to UK the problem was okay I
think also I was unable to typ the
pound sign whilst it was in US mode and this resolved by setting to
UK, worth an explore.

Subject: [jaws-uk] Shortcut Key
Hi,
I'm trying to create a shortcut key to run JAWS.
I've found properties and the shortcut options tab .
I have target as "C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\2018\jfw.exe"
I've tab to shortcut key and have selected control+alt+down.
However, when I click apply I get the message access denied: you will
need to provide administrator permission to change these settings,
click continue to complete the operation. When I click continue and
then OK nothing happens and the shortcut has not been created.
Not quite sure what I need to do. I am the administrator and the only
person using this PC.
I'm using Windows 10 and JAWS 2018.
Many thanks - Sue.
