Hi,

The Control + g is the command to go to a specific cell, like you say,
for example A 1, but another thing that's handy to know, is you don't
necessarily need to be on the first cell in a column or row to select
the entire section. If for example, you're sitting in X 33 in a large
spreadsheet, control space will select the full column X, and shift
space bar will select the entire row 33. You're then presented with a
drop down menu with options on what you want to do with what you've
highlighted.

I usually use ctrl with g, type the address of the last cell in the
collomn and then press shift with enter.
