Hi again Tony,
Are you absolutely sure you're saving when you exit the Configuration Manager?
After saying OK in the Speech & Sounds Manager dialog box you will be back in
the Configuration Manager and you need to go to File, Save to save the
configuration file (usually default.JCF). I suggest you then exit the
configuration manager and then go straight back in again to see if the settings
have been saved. If they haven't been saved then I think you must have a
problem saving your configuration file, and I'm not sure how to help you, but
perhaps someone else reading this will have a suggestion. What about changing
something else in the Configuration Manager to see if these settings are saved?
Maybee it's something to do with your default.JCF file. Have you managed to
save any changes before?
Not sure how to help more, good luck trying once more tomorrow.
Belinda

  HI BELINDA,
I TRIED USING THE SETTING AS YOU SUGGESTED ON THE COLLEGE SYSTEM LAST
THURSDAY BUT TO NO EFFECT. FOR SOME REASONS JAWS DOES NOT SEEM TO BE RETAINING
THE SETTINGS. WHEN YOU GO BACK INTO WORD ALL THE FONT ATTRIBUTES ARE BEING
SPOKEN AND WHEN YOU GO INTO CONFIGURATION MANAGER THE SPEECH AND SOUNDS MANAGER
SETTINGS ARE BACK TO WHAT THEY WERE BEFORE!
THIS IS BECOMING QUITE A PAIN.

  CHEERS

I think I might have found the answer to this, but it may depend on what
version of Jaws you've got. I've got Jaws 5.0 and I've found an option in the
settings area as follows:
    Jaws/Utilities/Configuration manager/Set options/Speech & Sounds
manager/then change Scheme from Classic to
Classic (Attributes and font Info). Save those settings and this should
then read what you want.
Let us know if it works,
    Belinda

      Dear Joan,
Going back to your original message, how did you manage to turn off JAWS
saying all the attributes at the start of a line. I am having this problem
using Word on a system at college and have not found a way of silencing this!

        Hi, Michael,

Thanks very much for your help.

As usual, I haven't explained very well. What I want is for Jaws to
tell me when in Say All Mode, when text is bold, underlined or normal, that
kind of thing.

        Thank you again.

        Best wishes,

        Joan.

          Hi Joan,

I'm not sure whether what I am about to say is the attributes you
refer to in Word, but if it is what I think it is, do the following.

To find out the "attributes" of a line of text in Word, press the
keystroke insert+f on the keyboard and will say something like; Type Roman,
size 12 point, alligned left, single line spacing, etc.

If you want to know what colour the text is and what colour
background press the keystroke insert+5 on the numbers row, and it will say for
example, "black on white".

          Hope this helps,

          Michael Brown.

            Hi, Folks,

A basic point I know but I can't for the life of me remember how to
get Jaws to say attributes in Word.

At one time it was overdoing it by telling you them in each line so
I turned the option off.

Now I find that there is so much blurb within the managers that I
feel I'm almost wading through treacle!

Any help would keep me sane and be gratefully received.

            Best wishes,

            Joan.
