It turns itself on when it finds readable math.

I have tested reading math. It works fine in JAWS 16 but not in JAWS 17. It
may be in JAWS 17 Swedish version only. It works only in HTML files and
MathML must be used. It is very simple to use. JAWS tell you when math is
found. It also reads the formula. If you need more details press ENTER.
The
formula may be scanned by using the left and right arrows. If you need
more
details of a part of the formula, stay on it and press DOWN ARROW. Now you
can scan the part in more detailed form. This may be possible in many
levels. To go up a level use the UP ARROW key. To leave this use the
escape
key.

Good luck!

Hi shuiyee,

It is not much but the following webpage might give you a starter:

https://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/jaws/JAWSWhatsNew

Having said that, I think that the basic information you want to access
may
have to be in the MathML format before this works for you.

See if this helps at all.

hi
yes there are new math in jaws that i think many people are unaware of
because rarely blind people do math. but i need to learn it because i am
doing research and it is essential for me to do math. anyone that can help
would be greatly appreciated.

Hi shuiyee,

I noticed that you have had no replies to your question.  I must admit
that
I'm not sure which math features you are meaning.  Perhaps if you could
give
us some more information about what help you need, that might help us
know
what you are needing help with.

I've been using Jaws for a long time but don't think I've come across any
specific maths features within Jaws, though I'm happy to be proved wrong.

I do know that there was work being done a while ago on systems for
allowing
blind mathemeticians and scientists to be able to access complex
functions
using just speech - I think using an extension of XML called MathML, but
I've not had any dealings with that side of things for around 10 years
now.

Sorry I can't help more.

Jamie

Hi
I struggle with PDF and reading tables in PDF.sometimes they do not read
the
correct column and row in order which is very frustrating.if only people
will make all their PDF accessible to the blind.anyway just want to ask
how
can I learn the math function in Jaws? I need to learn it but I am not
sure
how. Would appreciate any response.

Hi Peter,

I think you should try using the keystroke Control+Alt+ArrowKeys rather
than
"Alt+Delete+RightArrow".

I also sometimes find that you need to save and re-open the file for it
to
work reliably.

Give it a shot anyway.

Using JAWS 17 and Office 2010

I have set up JAWS to read column titles in the quick settings dialogue
box
- I think. However it is not reading the column titles when tabbing or
tapping alt+delete+right arrow etc. Yet when tapping alt+numpad 5 the
appropriate column and row is announced. Can anybody explain that
please?

Peter
