Yes, that's indeed the most safest way.  I always use that method from the 
system tray.

Hi Everett

I've always done it that way because it can cause corruption of the
data, and since I don't want that, just remove it properly.  If simply
taking it out works for you, then no problem, but I have always just
removed it through the System Tray.
