I haven't got JFW 8 but I recall listening to Eric Damarys spiel about JFW 8 features and I'm sure there was a reference to field prompts. Try looking in the tabs associated with HTML options in JFW Config manager for IE. In 7.1 there are references in the Miscellaneous tab to field prompts. This is defeatist I realize but I have a similar problem when filling in YouGov surveys where some of the checkboxes don't show up. In desperation I set a shortcut key for whichever Jaws works with the combo boxes and bring in that Jaws to perform the task. All we want to do is achieve whatever task as quickly as possible don't we?
