Glad it worked for you Justine - it did my head in until someone else on the list many moons ago gave me the tip - bless their cotton socks!!! What a relief! Best wishes, Justine. ----- Original Message ----- From: Barry G To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, November 30, 2009 6:48 PM Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: R: Re: Find function I hesitate to correct you, but if you want to go back to moving by complete page with the ctrl+page up and ctrl+page down after using the find hot key in Word 2003, all you need to do is use control+G to initiate the go to page dialog, enter a page number and hit enter, you will be taken to the page you specified, hit escape. the control+page up/down will then work again... Ideally, specify the page number from which you wish to use the control+page up/down function. Bit of a faff, I know, but it works. I will definitely see if I can turn on the quick navigation keys, the next time I am looking at a large document. Once again, thank you very much; it is very much appreciated. Best wishes, Justine. . ----- Original Message ----- From: RMPortal To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, November 30, 2009 2:49 PM Subject: [jaws-uk] R: Re: Find function Dear Justine, If I have understood properly your complaint is essentially concerned with the behaviour of the hot keys control page up and control pageDown in Word 2003. If you have not used Find since you last opened Word these two hot keys will take you to the beginning of the next and previous page within a document. As soon as you use Find however, the same hot keys look for the next and previous occurrence of the term you last typed into the Find edit box in the document. They only way you can go back to the next and previous page movement is to close down Word altogether and re-open it. If you want to move through the document quickly you might want to look at turning on "Navigation quick keys" in the Jaws Verbosity tree-view (insert+v). I would suggest you look this feature up in the Jaws Help before using it if you are interested. I tried it and pressed escape but when I tried to move up or down a page with control and page up/down key, Jaws says either previous occurrence or next occurrence. This is really frustrating when I am in a 40 paged document because it stops me from moving quickly through the pages. Have you got any more suggestions please. ----- Original Message ----- From: The Gamages To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, November 29, 2009 9:18 PM Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: Find function control and F, type in your search criteria, tab to "find next", press enter then press escape. The last command is the only one you didn't try. good luck, Jim. ----- Original Message ----- From: Justine Duffy To: Jaws Users Sent: Sunday, November 29, 2009 8:43 PM Subject: [jaws-uk] Find function Hi All, Please can you tell me how to get out of the find function when in Microsoft Word 2003 using Jaws 9. I use control and f, then tab round and add the word I want to find and then tab to find next and enter. Once I am where I want to be in the document I cannot get out of this function. I enter on cancel and even close if the option comes up. To a sighted person it has shut down and I can read the document. If I want to scan through the document by using control and page up or page down, Jaws asks if I want to carry on searching, yes or no. Pressing no or even ok if this is brought up, makes no difference. The only way for it to clear is to press alt and f4 and then reopen the document, which defeats the purpose of using the find function. I would be grateful if anybody can assist me. Thank you very much. __________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4647 (20091129) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com __________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4650 (20091130) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com __________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4650 (20091130) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com __________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4650 (20091130) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com
