Dear Marie,

You might try the key-stroke shift plus control plus n which removes all
formating. This will remove automatic numbering/letters for the
paragraph the editing cursor is in without removing the lot. It will
also remove other formating such as centring, underlining etc. for that
paragraph. It might also change numbering/lettering in the paragraphs
after the one you have applied it to. So, if you have paragraphs 1 to 5
and you remove the numbering on paragraph numbered 4, the paragraph
previously numbered 5 will change to 4.
Another way you can delete/change individual paragraph letters or
numbers (although I've a feeling this only works in versions of Word
from 2002 onwards) is by going to the line on which the letter or number
appears and pressing the home key twice. Jaws should speak the
number/letter concerned because it should then be highlighted. At this
point you press delete to remove the numberor type the letter/number you
want to replace it with.
Best wishes

Robert Portal

Oggetto: [jaws-uk] Deleting with jfw in Word

I am trying to write a document with several sections and sub-sections.
I was first surprised then annoyed when Word put numbers and letters for
me
every time I changed line. With help from someone on the access list, I
managed to turn off the automatic numbering off. Now, I've come back to
my
document to edit it and get rid of the letters and numbers I do not want
and
find that I cannot delete them
Jfw reads them, I can see them on the braille display but when I place
the
cursor on them, the next character gets deleted, not the number of
letter
placed automatically by Word I want to get rid of. The window is
maximized
of course. What's going on? Does this mean those letters and numbers are

graphics? Do I have to retype the entire document? Can someone explain
please? I'm puzzled.

Marie.
