I lost my sight in 1998 and got jaws 3.0 just before jfw 3.2 came out that incldued eloquence. Hence I still got it for use with a hardware synth that I still have and use as I type this.

jaws 3.0 still came on floppy disks and if I remember correctly, there were 4 disks with jaws on it and the 5th contained the installer for msaa I went on to use the beta of jaws 3.2 pretty quickly. At the time, I was impressed how well and how easily I could use the ocomputer with jaws.

jaws today has a lot of features that I probably never use. the most noticable difference in those early versions of jaws was the lack of the invisible cursor (you only had the pc and the jaws cursor) and even more noticable the lack of the virtual cursor for the browser and other applications like email client that today use msaa. the virtual cursor for the internet was not introduced until jaws 3.3.1 that worked with i.e.5.0. Before that we used to "reformat" webpages for better accessibility. Copying text from a webpage was a real challenge back then and I do not know if I still know how to do it. this said, I was several jaws versions late to learn to take advantage of the virtual cursor mode. i kept reformatting my pages for several years after the virtual cursor was introduced. <g>

As for jaws 12 public beta, I saw it out Friday morning or even thursday night still but haven't played with it.

Cheers,

doris

Hello Chris, well when I went blind about 4 to 5 years ago I can't remember which one lol I 1st had Jaws 6.0 and it was amazing! Wow I wonder what jaws was like the version you 1st had I mean. I know people have talked about it on this list when I mentioned a question. But I wonder if a person was extremely limited in what Jaws could do back when it 1st came out! And yet talking about your 1st version of jaws, I just wanted to let everyone know for thoughs who don't know that Jaws 12 Beta should be coming out very soon! check out www.freedomsci.com/fscast and look for the latest podcast on that page!
Thanks

Hello all.
What was the first version of JAWS you ever used? Mine was JFW version 3.2 on a laptop running Windows 95.
