Hi Linda,

.SHS extensions on the end of files indicate that the files contain a script
which is a set of commands which are able to perform operations on your own pc
or others machines to whom you send them.

Some viruses have utilised these techniques and it is quite possible that you
have such a virus which is attaching scripts to your benign attachments to
infect the recipients of your E-mails.

You should ensure that you have applied all of the updates for your operating
system and Outlook express and that you have a good anti-virus and anti-spyware
package with their latest updates. Having done all of this, run a full scan of
the anti-virus and anti-spyware applications to satisfy yourself that you have
no infection on your pc.

If all of this returns a clean bill of health, I'll have to think again but I
wouldn't send any more attachments until you are sure that all is well.

I hope this doesn't worry you too much but we all have to be aware of devious
people who wish to cause us trouble on the internet.

HTH,

Phil Medway.

  Subject: [jaws-uk] Query with attachments

  Hi list,

I am having a problem sending attachments with messages from Outlook Express
and wondered if anyone could tell me what to do.

In the past I've sent attachments without difficulty, but lately I've noticed
that when I add file attachments to messages they have the letters SHS at the
end of the title and before the 39KB - or whatever KB it might be.

I don't know if the letters SHS have anything to do with the problem in not
being able to send messages with attachments, but it seems strange they should
appear at the same time as my problem has arisen. I have no idea what they
mean, so if they are irrelevant, please excuse my ignorance.

I hope one of you can tell me what is causing the problem, and suggest a way
to correct it.

I have already tried sending alternative files as attachments to my own
address and again SHS appears and the same problem occurs. It is most
frustrating.

  Thanks in advance.

  Lynda
