I'll agree with Martin, but often these things go on for a long time before
dying... depends on your attitude to risk.
You might get away with pulling it out, giving it a clout to release all the
dirt and putting it back.
Probably you're not such a cheapskate as me, though and a new one would be
best.

could be your fan's barings going. a fan isn't that expencive to replace,
and is quite easy to fit. You can, if you have someone who is confident as
getting inside computers, fit the fan, or get a computer repair shop to do

Intermittantly, getting what I think is a fan making a hell of a noise.
Is this likely to be a bigger problem than just a noise?
Any suggestions for stopping it?
