If the new out of box iPhone has iOS 11 on it, which a new one will, you
just triple tap the home button a few seconds after you turn the iPhone on
and bang! Voiceover is working right there. You then want to go in to
accessibility and make sure triple tap always turns voiceover on. I do this
because apart from initial setup, as far as I have experienced, triple tap
will only launch you into the accessibility screen once iPhone is setup
unless you tell it to launch a certain function such as voiceover etc.

As I said before, I purchased an I phone specifically to use the Seeing AI
app, I got the I phone S E, it cost me "299 and is available from several
outlets at this price. The voice over makes it very understandable and menus
are very logical.
You don't have to use it as a phone, I didn't for several weeks, but I do
now. You need to set up an Apple account to get the app from the Apple
store, but this app is free.
Some sighted assistance may be wise to get voice over working, but after
that it's perfectly usable, the touch screen is really simple once you have
a few gestures . swiping left or right will go through the items on the
screen and once you hear the one you want just double tap anywhere on the
screen and the app opens.
A bit more to learn but if you decide to buy a phone, feel free to e mail me
off list and I will help in any way I can, either in writing or a podcast
going through the menus etc.

No, I'm still on an old little phone. Am promising myself to switch but
don't have the time to be brought to a halt while I learn the touchscreen
thing. Recently saw a Capsys but even the guy demoing it was very unsure of
how to work it, so I decided to wait another few months until I might learn
it from someone with confidence themselves. I am fairly good with tech
really, but wish it was possible to learn the smart phone stuff without
having to make it into my actual telephone. I'm happy with a phone that
phones and texts. Clearly smart phones have way more to offer, but the
touch screen makes it so touch and go (no pun intended).
Sorry this is a little o-t; I'd love more advice re phones though,
especially how and where to get proper amounts of good quality help in
learning to use them.

No. it's iphone or nothing as far as seeing eye goes but there are some
useful programs that run under Android I believe.
