Hi Barbara, > Can anyone tell me if they think running JAWS is sore on a laptop's > battery? I have noticed that my battery drains very quickly and the > laptop is relatively new.=20 It shouldn't cause a problem of itself; battery life is governed by a few factors, including your screen which will probably have backlighting, the way your hard drive is set up to work, the speed of your processor and so on. Did your laptop come with any utilities for power management? It can be worth looking there, if you have it; sometimes you can tell such utilities to throttle the CPU while on battery. If your utility lets you, you can also turn your screen off, or if not you can direct the output to a nonexistent external monitor with a VGA dummy plug; that will help to extend your battery life.
