Hi again Robin,

Using Jaws10 the semi-colon is the key to use to navigate through landmarks.

ARIA can help to break pages up in to logically discrete areas. It can also assist access technologies to recognise when only part of a page has been updated rather than the whole page having been refreshed.

Often complex web pages comprise a whole set of different applets and other items which are mashed together to create a whole. Unfortunately, access technologies don't always manage to make sense across all of these objects but ARIA can be used in different ways to present things more meaningfully. The whole ARIA project is a response to overcome the inaccessibility created by some web 2 techniques.

Regards,

Phil Medway.

Thanks Phil and David, very interesting.

A good alternative to frames I guess as well.

Cheers, Robin

Hi Robin,

in addition to the detailed reference that Phil mentioned, there's also a brief description of landmarks in the last section of this guide:

Hi all,

Noticing on a few websites that jaws is now reading landmarks. I think I
might be sticking my head above the parapet here and going to get
blasted, but is this a new feature in jfw, or a new feature in website
html coding?

I see it on my BT Yahoo account page when I go to look at my webmail
online. On jfw 10, IE7.

Kind regards,
