Ken, not on my system which is an XP, Office 2003 with Jaws 12, and not on
any other people's systems I know. It's quite safe to install really.

I don't know of any other way of accessing .docx documents using an older
Office version other than the MS plug-in.

HTH,

Amro

Subject: [jaws-uk] Old Word plug in

All,

I have a friend with a rather dated set up. She has XP, Word 2003, IE6 and
Jaws 7.

Whenever she receives a Word 2007/10 file with a .docs extension she is
prompted to download a plug in to allow her to open it. Having had lots of
problems recently, and finally having a settled installation, she is nervous
about bringing in anything that may upset the balance.

Has anyone experienced any problems as a result of installing the plug in?

Is there any other way to allow an older installation to access the new Word
format?

Goodness knows why MS decided it was a good idea not to make 2007 fully
compatible with older versions of their own software! They must think we
are all made of money and can afford to upgrade every time they tell us to.
Sorry for the brief rant!

Thanks,

Ken
