Hi,

It was my mistake - I thought it would work if I just pressed, but didn't hold, caps lock. So it is working.

Hi Catherine,

A couple of things to check which might be causing the anomaly ...

1. Check in the keys tab of the accessibility options of the control
panel that the sticky, filter and toggle keys are unchecked.

2. Check in the default configuration of the Jaws configuration manager,
that the insert mode is unchecked.

Other than these, I am short of ideas.

Subject: [jaws-uk] Keyboard layout problem

Hello,

I wanted to try using the laptop layout. I've changed to laptop layout in
JAWS basic settings. My understanding is that now, the caps lock key should
act as the JAWS key. But JAWS is behaving as if the caps lock is not the
JAWS key.

I have to press caps lock twice before JAWS says caps lock on or caps lock
off, which suggests the caps lock is being treated as the JAWS key. But I
can't get jaws to respond to any jaws key commands. e.g. if I do caps lock t it doesn't read the title. If when in internet explorer I do caps lock i
to read the current line jaws behaves as if I've just pressed i on its own
and moves to the next list item.

Interestingly, for a while just now while writing this message the caps lock
seemed to stop functioning altogether - I couldn't get JAWS to say "caps
lock on" or "caps lock off" no matter how many times I pressed it. Don't
know whether caps lock went on/off but JAWS just stopped announcing it...

Am I misunderstanding what's meant to happen or is there a problem? I'm
using JAWS 7.0 for this.

Catherine
