Yes you can do that, the problem however is that if you have JAWS in the
alt+tab order it is quite possible to shut this down by mistake if that
keystroke doesn't work first time.

Hi Tris,

Very useful, thanks.

For shutting down etc, you can also go to the Desktop with Windows+D and
then use Alt+F4 to get to the shut down dialogue box.

Cheers,

Jamie

Hello JAWS-UK listers.

I haven't posted for a while but I noticed this topic.

In Windows 8.0 and 8.1 there are actually two versions of Internet Explorer
present. There is the touch based Modern app which is if little practical
use to JAWS users. The other is the regular Internet Explorer with all the
features you know and expect. However which you get depends on where you
start it from.

If you have a desktop or taskbar icon you will get the full Internet
Explorer you know. However if launching from the start screen Windows will
assume you mean you want the touch based version.

If you wish to avoid this situation you can also tell Windows you always
want the full Internet Explorer.
1 Open "Control panel" (you can search for it in the start screen).
2 Then choose "Internet options".
3 Press CONTROL+TAB to reach the "Programs" page.
4 There in the drop down select the option "Always use internet
Explorer on the desktop".
5 Press TAB and also check the box "Open internet explorer tiles on
the desktop".
6 TAB to "OK" and press SPACEBAR on it.

Now internet Explorer full version whatever you do.

Another quick tip that has really bugged me is having to use the charms bar
to shut down. With Windows Windows 8.1 you can avoid it if you like for
this task. Is to use the Windows+X keystroke which with the new Windows
release has "Shutdown" available on it. This you can use to good effect by
the following method:
Windows+X then letter U and U again to shutdown or
Windows+X then letter U and then R for restart

Hope this helps.

Hi,

If you used the context menu on the IE app and say add to task bar, when
you go to the task bar and select IE10 you will get the normal menus.
