"Again, anyone else hit this situation, perhaps some security thing with me installing it twice in such a short space of time with the same serial number?" Let me explain something here that may help when you get the message that the authorisation is for an earlier version. When you activate a copy of JAWS a file is downloaded over a secure connection and is planted onto your hard drive. This authorisation file has information in it sufficient to tell it what version of JAWS you are licensed for and whether you are a standard or professional user. It also contains info about an SMA if one is in place, and also some extra info to say if you have authorisation for remote access or perhaps Dectalk Access 32 (remember that?). We had something similar with the old Quelle disks for users who go back that far. The problem is that once this authorisation is on the hard drive from FS it is at the mercy of the passage of time. It has information in it which will be out of date possibly if you install a later JAWS. In the days of the old diskette people had to wait for CDs and later the downloads. When those versions of JAWS were installed your authorisation would be updated by an authorisation file. Those who did not have an SMA would receive an update file and occasionally even those who had an SMA got missed out. The ILM is essentially similar in the sense that you will have an out of date authorisation on your hard disk and receive the error message that your authorisation is out of date. This does not happen if when you downloaded your JAWS authorisation you had an SMA already showing. In that situation you would not be asked to re-activate your software because it would be valid for the new JAWS. If you are upgrading (without an SMA in place already) you will again see the authorisation for a previous version of JAWs message. In both cases it will be necessary to re-activate so that your activation is updated. This is quite normal. If you mail me pricately with your serial number I can sort things out for you so you can get your laptop authorised. Regards.
