Hi again all, Further to my previous e-mails, I have tried Phil's suggestion of 'repairing' Jaws. When I did this, an error message was displayed saying that "the file 'FileFinder.ini' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'JAWS.cab'" on either the hard drive or the CD and that the installation would have to close. I next attempted to modify my installation, again using the CD. I actually made no changes using 'custom install', but managed successfully to complete that process without any error messages being displayed. Neither the abortive 'repair' nor the 'modification' solved the problem however. Jaws still would not generate speech at startup although the Braille drivers worked fine. I still had to exit Jaws and restart it to get speech working. Finally, I uninstalled Jaws (using the 'uninstall' option on the CD) only leaving my user settings on the machine. I then did a fresh install of Jaws, followed by a re-installation of the updates from the Freedom Scientific website. Despite doing all of these things however, I have been unable to debug the problem. Jaws is still only operating with Braille drivers at startup and I am still only able to get speech generated by closing and restarting Jaws. This seems to me to suggest that whilst the problem is affecting Jaws, it may be some kind of system problem not directly related to the Jaws installation. The only clue I have (and I am not sure if this is a false lead or not) is the error message which came up during the initial repair process concerning file 'FileFinder.ini'. I have run Winferno (A McAfee product with a registry repair function) but whilst identifying and fixing a few other problems, the problem with the sound at Jaws startup remains. I am running out of ideas as to what else to try! Can anyone out there help please? Best wishes, Mike Higgins, Email: m.j.higgins@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Address: 1 Portland Court, Sheffield, S6 3EW, UK.
