Ah yes, well done you man. That's exactly the message I was talking about and since Mike said that there's no other audio devices that is the only other thing I could think of.

Hi Mike, if no external USB audio devices such as phones or an external soundcard are connected to your computer, and you have only one internal soundcard, you could try the below solution. From your description I don't think what I'm copying below is related to your problem, still, worth the try. Incidentally, this is the message that Vanja was talking about!

"The problem revolves around a graphic adaptor which also has an audio adaptor built into it. The connection between computer is HDMI and sound can be transmitted down this type of connection so it is most convenient if hooking up a large display for watching HD movies to have this arrangement on the assumption that the display also has some speakers. The audio adaptor on the video card was causing JAWS to go through it when no audio output was likely to be heard at the other end, there being no output device. We hadn't come across a graphic adaptor like this before at S&S however we decided that since, in a normal computing context this extra audio is not required in addition to the regular soundcard. The most effective solution was to disable the secondary audio adaptor. I don't think this is likely to be a very common problem for now."

The graphics card that is referred to was an ATI for HD Audio.

Good luck.

Hi Vanja,
I only have one soundcard and it is inside the machine, not a USB device.
The problem has only arisen after (but I guess not necessarily as a
consequence of) my ghosting my old hard drive on to a newer, more reliable
and larger capacity replacement.

Any other thoughts?

Best wishes,
