Hi David. Curious indeed. Using the latest build of JAWS, I hear bullet announced before each and every comment. For example, bullet At 31/05/07 12:27, Paul67 said.. Tom, this is indeed what I'm having to do, I revert back to JAWS 7.0 or 7.1 to read this particular site. And Brian, I followed your advice also. All to know avail. Remembering to unload and reload JAWS after making the changes. I cannot for the life of me see why David doesn't hear bullet and I do, even though I make the recommended IE dictionary alterations. If JAWS 8 is handling these sites differently as I've been told, why aren't all installations of version 8 acting alike? Looks like its something I'm just going to have to put up with. Thanks to you three for your input. Regards. I have had a look at this site about Celtic, | cursored up and down and gone to the list of 289 items. I've read the lines | individually and read several of the posts using SayAll but have heard no | mention at all about any bullets. | | Regards | | David | | | -----Original Message----- | From: jaws-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx | [mailto:jaws-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Darran Ross | Sent: 01 June 2007 01:24 | To: Jaws-UK | Subject: [jaws-uk] JAWS 8.00.2107 and the "Bullet" symbol | | | Hi List. | | I've contacted the support team at FS with the following query; | | Quote: I always fix it so that JAWS doesn't say "bullet" when they appear in | lists | etc on webpage's. | | For me, this has always meant going into the default JFW dictionary and | telling JAWS to treat the bullet symbol as a blank space - to totally ignore | it in other words. | | This has never been a problem until this latest version. No matter what I | do, JAWS still constantly announces each and every "bullet" symbol as it | appears! | | I'm quite prepared to accept that I may well have missed an obvious setting | that will bring my desired result, but I've been through all manner of | options and settings within the config manager to no joy. | | If you look at a page like | | http://snipurl.com/1mwia | | you'll see/hear these symbols everywhere. As this is a site I visit | frequently, I'd sure appreciate it if someone there could tell me how to | silence this unwanted information. | | Regards. End Quote. | | Now, I've heard back from FS that this is down to the HTML code being used | on the site, and that there's no way for the latest JAWS to silence these | announcements! They say, | | "JAWS for Windows version 8.0 handles HTML web pages in a vastly different | manner than earlier versions of JAWS. For this reason, you will no longer | be able to use the Pronunciation Dictionary to disable the speaking of HTML | bullets." | | I'm desperate to believe this isn't so! Can anyone out there - who's stuck | with me through this e-mail - offer up any suggestions? | | Many thanks. | | Darran | | ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- | ** [mailto:jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] | ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: | ** jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx | ** and in the Subject line type | ** unsubscribe | ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the | ** immediately-following link:- | ** [mailto:jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] | ** or send a message, to | ** jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq | | | No virus found in this incoming message. | Checked by AVG Free Edition. | Version: 7.5.472 / Virus Database: 269.8.4/825 - Release Date: 30/05/2007 | 15:03 | | No virus found in this outgoing message. | Checked by AVG Free Edition. | Version: 7.5.472 / Virus Database: 269.8.4/825 - Release Date: 30/05/2007 | 15:03 | | ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- | ** [mailto:jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] | ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: | ** jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx | ** and in the Subject line type | ** unsubscribe | ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the | ** immediately-following link:- | ** [mailto:jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] | ** or send a message, to | ** jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq | | | __________ NOD32 2304 (20070601) Information __________ | | This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system. | http://www.eset.com | | ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
