Perhaps the solution below, which I got from another list, might work. 

Hi. I recently had this. PDF is displayed on screen but all screen readers say 
blank, including on files I could previously read. It’s because of a recent 
adobe reader update which enables enhanced document protection by default. To 
fix it open acrobat reader. Open preferences, control k. Scrole down to 
enhanced security, 25th item in a list of 30 for me. Tab once. Use space to 
toggle off enhanced protection. Ok the change and all should be fixed.

I agree with Ismail's recommendation to install the latest Adobe Reader, 
it's possible that your current version was affected when you upgraded JAWS, 
try this first before carrying out any repairs to JAWS, and be sure when 
installing Adobe Reader to check the screen reader box when prompted to do

Hi Peter,

Apologies, it opens PDF's in adobe.  As I say I used to get on quite well 
with PDF's but since starting this new job and installing Jaws 2018 on a new 
laptop and desktop it's not been working.  I didn't choose anything specific 
when I installed Jaws to make sure the Convenient OCR worked but then again 
I've never had to do this before and have just ran the standard Jaws 
installer and all has been good.

Hi Sarah,

I don't think you said which program or application launches when you open a 
pdf file, if the document is text based, Adobe Reader should read it fairly 
well, is it opening in MS Word for instance?

It's happening on all pdf documents which is weird as I used to be able to 
at least read some of them.

Your problem can happen if the document hasn't been produced in PDF 
properly. Does it happen on all PDF documents?

Hi all,
I've recently started a new job and am using Jaws 2018 on both a Windows 10
laptop and desktop.

I have previously been able to read PDF's ok or if necessary have used the
convenient OCR ability in Jaws to access image pdf's.  On both machines when
I open a PDF Jaws doesn't read any of the text even if I use the Jaws cursor
and it isn't given me the message I'm used to to ask if I'd like to run
convenient OCR.  Similarly if I save the file and then go to the
applications menu and choose the option to "recognise with Jaws" nothing
happens.

This is really frustrating and I could really do with being able to access
pdf's.

Any help / suggestions great fully appreciated.
