it's possible that any one of those could be slowing things down.
the only items I have in my system tray are jaws, Anti virus and my spyware
program.
Try switching off MuTorrent as I would assume that runs with a net connection.

I have MuTorrent running. Also Esett Smart Security. I also see Windows Live
Messenger in the System Tray though I am not signed in and I have set it so it
doesn't run in the background. Also I see my printer software "Lexmark
Productivity Studio", Should there be a setting somewhere to stop this running
from the System Tray?

Well after speeding up last night and this morning, the Internet is back
to being as slow as dial up again today. It often takes me the best part of
five minutes to load a page and more often than not it just stops. What puzzles
me is that the laptop which is working wirelessly is fine. Does this imply that
the problem is with my computer itself or some of its settings as it's
connected to the router by cable? Surely it can't be the phoneline as the
laptop is having no problems whatsoever?
