Hi Gena, sorry I've no advice to offer, but I had a go at the link you mentioned with Jaws 7 and all worked as normal. Thought I'd let you know...

Cheers,
Amro

Hi

Many thanks, I've followed the steps and the item was checked. As far as I can tell, jaws doesn't go into forms mode so I don't need to come out of forms mode, I need to get into forms mode so that I can enter my search string.

Hi again Gena,

The forms mode auto off option has been present in the last few upgrades of
Jaws but unfortunately, I can't remember exactly which version it was
introduced.

I have tried your example several times and haven't been able to reproduce
the problem with forms mode auto off enabled.

As Val has said, numpad plus will turn off forms mode and switching to
another window may do the same although I can't be certain of this and don't
have the time to verify it at the moment.

If you have a version of Jaws with the forms mode auto off option, you can
change it permanently as follows:

1. When in your browser, press JawsKey+6 on the top row.

2. Press alt+s then h to get to the html settings.

3. Press control+shift+tab to bring up the misc tab.

4. Tab six times which should place you on the forms mode auto off item.

5. Ensure that this item is checked. You can change the status of this
item by pressing the space bar.

6. Tab to ok and press enter.

7. Press alt+f4 and press y when asked if you want to save settings.

Hi

Never seen that setting. But that doesn't explain the inconsistency. Did
you try the example I gave?

Thanks

Hi Gena,

Is it possible that you have forms mode auto off disabled?

If this is so, any previous entry in to forms mode won't have been exited so that you will already be in forms mode and pressing enter will be likely to
submit the page.

You can check the status of forms mode auto off by pressing JawsKey+v and
pressing f until you reach the appropriate entry. The status can be changed
temporarily by pressing the space bar and more permanently in the
configuration manager in the html settings.

Subject: [jaws-uk] Interacting with form controls

Hi All

Occasionally, I find that jaws doesn't enter into forms mode so that I can
interact with the form element. Recently, a Google search was put in place so I could search through a list's archive and jaws doesn't seem to interact
with it very well. Some times jaws will enter into forms mode and other
times it will submit the form. I don't understand why it is inconsistent?
Does it vary with the browser being used?
