You can't help losing your key every time your computer configuration
changes. That's how it's intended to work so you can't use it on a
dozen machines.

Subject: [jaws-uk] I had to reinstall my sound card driver and . . .

Greetings,

A while ago, I managed to lose the sound card on my upstairs desktop pc,
files were being recorded from the internet via TotalRecorder alright
but no
sound of any kind from the system so good job I had a hardware synth for
Jaws.

Eventually, I was advised to go via system into device manager, thence
down
the devices and totally uninstall the card, restart Windows and it
should be
back.

I did and it was.

I lost my Jaws key so had to have it reset.

I would like to find how to stop losing the Jaws key in case I may need
to
repeat this or a similar fix. Obviously, I would need Jaws to be
running
until ready to restart Windows, so can anybody tell me how to stop loss
of
the key as happened this time?

I also had to reset volumes and here is the rub.

I went into control properties in GW (I have v5.56 running, not updated
to
v5.57 yet will do so shortly I have it and the Jim Grimsbey Jr. scripts)
and
I have TotalRecorder v8.1Pro build 980) having run sndvol32 to set up my
volumes. I could not get the master volume to change it was stuck at 7.

I decided to try setting through totalRecorder and, when I went to the
sliders on the main window, found recording level was set to 42, far too
low. I reset at 67, my usual state, I then exited the program and
re-entered GoldWave.

when I again went into control properties, I discovered the master was
set
at 22, so how can this be? all the other volumes showed 0 and the
balances
all 50 so I do not understand how TR could set the levels whereas GW
could
not be made to set them.

I would welcome any explanation via the JawsUK, total Recorder and the
GoldWave groups, to whence I am sending this post.
