Hi doing some filing, this is too useful not to Repost, actually the lady who demonstrated it to me in 2005 used Queen Elizabeth, and she wanted Elizabeth the First Dorothy ----- Original Message ----- From: "George Bell" <george@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

I think this is a case of the words "Filter" and "Keys"
being used and confused.

Let me try and explain, perhaps for the benefit of all,
where a "filter" comes in with Internet searching, and give
you one or two tips which help searching in Google or such
like.

If you put a + (plus sign) in front of a word, this
indicates that your search MUST include that word.

If you put a - (minus sign) in front of a word, this
indicates that your search must NOT include that word.

So if I enter

+King -George

it will bring up anything where the word "King" appears, but
none of the results will contain "George"

Now you may think that if you were to simply enter

King George

without any signs, it would find all references to my regal
namesake. No quite true. You will find that the results
could simply include one or the other of the search words,
not necessarily both. Consequently, you would get thousands
and thousands of results.

However, if you enter

"King George"

inside quotation marks, then you are effectively telling the
search process to look for that exact string in your search.
So only results which contained "King George" would appear,
thus narrowing the search results down.

And of course you can use the + (plus) and - (minus) in
front of text in quotation marks as well.

You will notice that I have not used the word "filter" one
in the above, but that is in effect what you are doing when
you do what I have described above. You are "filtering" the
results of your search.

George.

Nice to see you back on list Brian . Re filter keys I
think the word
filter covers many things.

The filter keys you refer to are the ones I got stuck in by
mistake and
Barry was helping me out of in that Post. The filter
keys used on
systems by I think a business is different again.
Recently for example
when messages were both being received by a third party ,
but also being
returned saying they were undelivered.

That took a lot of sorting out and at one point Zen asked me
to find out if
the other party was using "filter keys , we got it all
sorted in the end
but it was not easy. The other filter then seems to be
sorting of files
into specific folders so they don't clog your in box.

finally I recall having a visit from a lady tutor
,believe it or not I
did buy some courses of lessons in the home. Now this
lady if looking
for something specific on a Website told me she used a
Filter key, by
which she meant after putting in the Edit box in quotes
what she wanted
to find she then used the Plus sign she called this plus
symbol "a filter
key
so far I have not heard anyone else tell me this plus
filter sign is
needed but I can tell you one thing since I recorded her
tutorial she
could find almost anything with this Plus filter. maybe in
later versions
of Jaws or Internet Explorer it is not needed This was
in 2005 using
Jaws 4.51 but I mention it in case it is useful
