Thanks for your help.

I haven't yet been able to fathom out why or how, but the problem seems to
have corrected itself without my having touch the computer tonight.

It also sounds as though because of the content of the file, your system 
might have decided it is an mpu file or something so it would be a good idea

to select one of the files and check the properties to see what type of file

it comes up as.
