Mark I don't know what operating system you have and it may be slightly different for others but this is how I set the 'show file extensions' when displaying folder lists in Windows 2000. 1 On start menu press enter on 'Settings' (this is Documents and Settings in XP) 2. Press enter on 'Control Panel' Find 'Folder Options' and press enter Press Control + tab until you are on the 'View' tab Press tab once to get into the treeview and press alt+down arrow to open it. Arrow down until you hear the option 'Hide file extentions for known file types' and use the space bar to switch it off. Note there are other settings listed here which may be of interest to you) Tab to 'OK' and press enter HTH Chris -----Original Message----- From: Mark Smith [mailto:mark.smith1974@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 20 November 2005 22:07 To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: File Types and Folders or Documents Dear Christopher I have done this, and when I first of all go into my "C" drive it reads out the file extension for the first file type, but then not for the rest. I have opened the view menu as you suggest, but somehow the option does not seem to work every time I arrow around the documents or folders? Do I need to have some kind of setting activated in my jaws version 7? Many thanks Regards Mark ----- Original Message ----- From: christopher huby <mailto:christopher.huby@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, November 20, 2005 9:57 PM Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: File Types and Folders or Documents Hi Mark, when in the list of documents, press alt v and it will come up in the view menu, tap the letter d this will make sure that you have the details displayed at the end of the file name. Hope that this helps. How can I please find out with JFW 7.0 what types of documents I have stored on my PC, ie, a Doc format file, a PDF format file or an HTML format. I am aware that documents have file extensions after their names, but jaws does not seem to be reading this out to me? 2. When I am arrowing around the files in either owners documents or on my "C" drive, is there a way in which jaws can tell me if the file name is either a folder or document please? I think there is a different type of visual symbol on the screen, but can not hear Jaws telling me if I am on a folder with files in it or an actual file document. Many thanks for any help with this query. Best wishes Mark _____ No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
