Thanks for this but I think I have worked it out a different way. For some
reason, probably when I upgraded the pc from Windows 7 to 10, it has put the
regional and language settings to English/United States.
The first box in that area says English UK but the second tab said
English/United States. So I looked at it and it had a second option for
English/United Kingdom and I downloaded the language pack.
The key to this was, that in the original Excel format cells dialogue box
under currency, the first option was the US dollar sign. Now that I have
downloaded the English/United Kingdom language pack, the default option is
now showing the £ pounds symbol. I read somewhere that the language pack
will adapt to working with your apps in a compatible style to the language
pack you have set as default.
I hope this makes sense and might help others who come across some qwerky
changes to their programmes if they are doing the Win 7 to 10 transition.

I don't think so but I think I know what you need to do.
Essentially I think you have managed to set the formatting to be "GBP"
rather than "£". To put it right, do the following:
1. Select the cells you wish to format as currency.
2. Press Control+1 (on the number row) to go into the formatting dialogue
box.
3. Select the "Numbers" tab and tab onto the first item for selecting the
preferred type of numbering. Select the "Currency" option from this drop
down.
4. Tab until you are on the "Symbol" option and press the Home key to go to
the top of the list. Press DownArrow once and you should now be on the £
sign.
5. Tab to the OK button and the job should be done.

When I key F2 to read the contents of the cell with the arrow keys, it just
shows 10 there, so is this perhaps a dictionary thing?
Strange if so, but I'll make a new entry in the excel.jdf file for this.

Excel 2007 and Jaws 17 latest build, Windows 10
When formatting cells in a sheet, I want to select currency and £'s but the
only option I can select is GBP. Every cell contains this and reads as "GBP
10.00" instead of simply £10
Is this a qwerk in the latest Jaws or something in Excel I need to reset
perhaps? I have removed and re installed my Office 2007 Suite twice now and
I'm puzzled.
