Hi Robin,
I looked at the Skyscanner page and noticed behaviour I've seen before; the
controls aren't edited directly, but when focus arrives on them they produce
pop-up information a mouse user can use very easily. With a screen reader, the
information is added to the bottom of the page. Although you can easily go to
the bottom with Ctrl + End, you then have to arrow up through the information
to find the start of it. Better, in my view, is to note what the page ends with
and then use some of that in a virtual find, Ctrl + F, so that you can move to
the start of the pop-up information. In Skyscanner's case, the date 2002
appears on the last line, so once you think the pop-up is there, do a Ctrl + F
and look for 2002, then arrow down and you should find the new info.
So, for the date fields, as soon as your focus lands in them a table appears at
the end of the page. Navigating the table is tricky because it isn't labelled
well, but it is technically feasible. As soon as you press Space on a date to
select it the table disappears and your focus is left at the bottom of the
page. You then have to navigate back to the date area to check it's as you want
and then move on to the next control.
With the Cabin class and travellers button that follows the dates, you have to
press Enter or Space on the button to get the pop-up, then go to the bottom of
the page to find it.
I used IE11 and JAWS 18, but I think this would also work with Firefox.

Subject: [jaws-uk] Edit fields on some websites
Hi list,
Is there a way that Jaws can access edit fields that just seem to be missing?
Anyone out there who has a trick for me to try?
I’m talking about travel websites like Skyscanner.net, Jet2, Trip Adviser,
James Villas, etc. You just can’t enter the edit fields to put in your dates,
numbers etc to filter your search criteria. If you route jaws to PC you see
dates and numbers all mixed in with other text, it’s a nightmare.
Using the latest JFW 18, tried IE11 and Firefox, so frustrating. I wonder if
tweeking the screen resolution might help?
Cheers,
Robin Clayden
