OK have now done it. I was looking in the wrong place went to settings and
ease of access rather than the ease of access centre.
Well, have for the time being put notifications to 5 minutes. However, this
still hasn't helped. There is no auto focus from JAWS to the notification
and I'm unable to find the notification message anywhere. Have tried
alt+tab, looked on the taskbar and in notifications. Have tried a JAWS left
mouse click too.

Pressing tab once and then the end key doesn't take me anywhere. If I press
tab once I'm then sitting on the start magnification button.

There is away round this, go to settings on your windows 10 & then go to
ease of access & press enter.
After that tab once & press the end key.
You will land on other options tab to the combo box for show notifications
for 5 seconds.
Hold the alt down & press down arrow Go down until you get to the one you
want & press enter.
Press the windows logo key & a.

At this point, have you tried a JAWS OCR of the window or the screen to see
if JAWS detects the text? Pressing JAWS key + Spacebar then O and W should
OCR the window. Press S instead of W to OCR the screen. HTH.

Yes I think focus on the dialogue box is the issue. Pressing ctrl+tab
doesn't work.
If I press JAWS left click or right click on the numpad when JAWS starts
speaking the dialogue message. This does seem to do something but still
doesn't let me read anything. The only option I can see is a dismiss
notification button. Tabbing around reads nothing and all I hear is tab.

Hi Sue as I said before I am not familiar with w10 or the later jaws but
these dialogue boxes appear briefly and any keypress can make them go away
so if the box appears in a very small window that cannot keep focus just
pressing the arrow key can dismiss it. Therefore, the minute it speaks you
would need to press a keypress that maximises the window if it is very
small the second it starts to talk. I don't know if j18 has such a key press
though. Other things you could try are ctrl tab which swaps between windows
in internet explorer or activating the mouse cursor. Just a thought.

A couple of things.
1: in the start search box, windows key, type autoplay settings. Open
the first result. Tab and you'll get options for your various
removeable devices. On the cd drive, I've got open folder to view files.
Another thing to try.
Open the pc using this pc key, windows E. Arrow down to the drive you
want to operate. Then press shiftF10. That brings up a context menu
that you can explore.
