Hi Dorothy,
When defragmenting, I usually press insert+numpad 3 to speak the status
line. This tells me the percentage completed.
If you do cancel it by mistake or even deliberately, it isn't the end of the
world. Defragment can always be started again. You will have wasted the
time you have spent waiting for it this time though.

Hallo all,
A friend came today to help me get K.1000 upgraded to V.11. Since my
laptop has been running very slowly I asked him to see if it needs a Defrag,
something I am aprehensive about doing myself. .He looked and although
there is plent of Disc it did indicate it could do with a Defrag. Friend
turned all programes off including Jaws. Now how can I tell when it has
finished? It is very silent, and I do not want to interupt it. The screen
darkens as screen saver does that after a while, if I touch it I get the
screen back and I can just make out little upright sticks like sticks of
rock, will the coloured upright sticks vanish when it is done? Shall I
leave it on all night anyway just be sure? Any thoughts. Dorothy
Ps, apart from the fan from time to time it is very quiet if I put a hand
on front to feel vibration. Just done that little sticks of colour still
there.Should friend have turned Jaws off?
