Hi Wendy

Speaking personally, I only said people should be careful that it was a hoax before rushing out and signing online petitions. Also, just because the threat is genuine, does not mean that particular Website is. I know very little about that Website, though have just been informed is an organisation who offer benefits advice and information for an annual subscription. Imediately I am thinking do they want to collect as many names and Email addresses as possible so they can convince them to take out a subscription in order to receive their assistance if DLA is affected. All I am saying is that simply rushing off to a Website you've never heard of and signing a petition isn't advisable no matter what the threat. Check it out with organisations you know and trust such as the RNIB first. We all have our own personal opinions as to whether or not this is true or a hoax, and we should all act accordingly.

If it is a hoax, why is there a link on the site which takes you to the
Department of Health website where you can download the green paper in PDF
form, plus a lot of other subsidiary documents?

However Kevin, it is amazing how many people have already signed it, and
people I always thought to be sensible and intelligent.

I think that alarm bells should, indeed be sounding particularly as
the government (with cross-party support) has (only relatively
recently) agreed to increase DLA for blind individuals. Any proposals
to cut the benefit would run directly counter to this decision and
would therefore make me suspicious of their authenticity.

Kevin

Apologies for the bulk Email, but I'm trying to send this to as many

Many of you by now will have received an Email warning of potential cuts
to
DLA and an upcoming Green Paper making certain proposals regarding
benefits.
On first receiving this Email I was suspicious as I tend to be of all
such
Emails. On going to the site, I noticed they were asking for your name
and
Email address. Again the warning bells sounded, is this just a way to get

as
many Email addresses as possible? There was a link to download the Green
Paper and read and again I was worried this might just be a virus they
want
you to download to your computer.

Not being sure, I forwarded an Email to someone I know who works as a
manager in the social care sector and is always well informed on such
issues. I was sure if this was a real threat she would be aware of it.
She's
just replied informing me that she knows nothing about these proposals
and
is like myself, concerned by the Website in question. She has told me she
knows of an Email in circulation informing people they may be elligible
for
a tax rebate. The Email porports to be from HMRC and the Website the link
brings you too indeed looks just like that of the HMRC. However, it
contains
a very harmful virus.

Whether you think I am just being over-cautious or you like me are
suspicious, I just thought it important to sound a word of caution before

we
all get carried away at the idea of what would be a very serious
decision.
