I suspect that what you are hearing is being reported by Typing Echo which is
set to characters, words, characters and words or none. If you set it to none
in the user options section of Config manager, you will not get any feedback at
all when you type. I don't think you will be able to isolate specific events
like save and open new file in order to silence Jaws in those circumstances,
whilst preserving the typing echo setting for everything else.

Yes, you certainly can do this. I'm continuing to play with various options,
