[jaws-uk] Re: Compatibility mode in Office 2007

Hi John

Thanks for this, but I don't think protected mode is the problem as
when I press F6 I don't find anything which says allow editing.

The weird thing is the fact that the same document opened via
different routes behaves in different ways. Obviously more
investigation on my part required here. :)

Hi John,

Whenever you open a Word document created in, say, Office XP or Office 2003,
the file is saved as a *.doc file. Office 2007 and Office 2010 use a
different format, for example *.docx. Therefore, when Office 2007 opens one
of these older format files it opens it in compatibility mode. You may also
find that if you open a document which has been downloaded from the Internet
or sometimes emailed as an attachment Office 2007 will open it in
'protected' mode. To unprotect the file and edit it, F6 once and cursor to
allow editing.

Don't know anything about Eudora and how it interacts with JAWS, so cannot
assist with this one.

Hth

John.

Subject: [jaws-uk] Compatibility mode in Office 2007

Hi All

I'm running Jaws 12 with Windows 7 and Office 2007.

Whenever I open a document in Word 2007 Jaws says compatibility mode.
What does this mean and can I turn it off?

Also, whenever I open an attached document directly from my email program,
Eudora, Jaws won't read anything in Word. The document is there and I can
read some of it with the Jaws cursor, but not in the normal way. If I go to
the attachments folder and open the document from there all is well. Can
anyone explain this?

Thanks for any help
