Barbara, there's a long-standing problem, which I thought may have been
cured - that Jaws sometimes won't read certain lines. Try adding a
space character, (or anything) to the beginning of the line, and see if
it works.
It probably won't but it's worth a go.

It appears the cursor does move, however, Jaws isn't reading lists, or
anything that has been typed in, line by line. It will read word by
word, using control and the arrow keys, but when trying to read line by
line, it just says blank. Before anyone asks, the screen is maximised.
