  Thanks Phil but it's not that. I've done a bit more cross-checking =3D
  between 510 and 7.0 and found that both will not read the top level menu =
=3D
  items and both announce 'No Font' when I check with Insert+f. When I =3D
  down arrow into the sub-menu items, 5.10 reads them as I move down, 7.0 =
=3D
  does not. Both announce the font on the sub-menu items as 'font is =3D
  underline Microsoft Sanserif 11 point'.. Both versions read the =3D
  sub-menu item when I do a Say Line, so the mystery continues.

  Cheers
  Chris    =3D20

  Hi Chris,

  It may be because you have Jaws set to follow the pc cursor.

  You can toggle this setting by pressing JawsKey+control+numpad minus.

  I use a mainframe terminal emulator called Attachmate Extra which uses a =
=3D

  normal menu bar containing dropdown lists under each menu item. When I=
=3D20
  press the alt key to move to the menu bar, Jaws 7 does not announce the =
=3D
  menu=3D20
  item and subsequent down arow keypresses do not announce the sub menu =3D
  items.=3D20
  I know I'm on a sub-menu item because the Say Line command will announce =
=3D
   a=3D20
  sub-menu item but does not work on a top level menu item. Jaws version =
=3D
  5.10=3D20
  works correctly for this application. Any idias what might be going =3D
  on?

  Cheers
  Chris
