there are only two usb synthesizers available: the Tripletalk USB at US$450 or thereabouts and the DECTalk usb at US$695. the Tripletalk sounds pretty much like the Doubletalk does and the DECtalk usb is dectalk speech though it sounds a little different from the classic dec express.

If you like Eloquence and your objective is only to have jaws speech separate from the rest of your audio, you might want to consider purchasing a separate soundcard - usb would be easiest - and configure jaws to use that particular soundcard. If you do not need to access real mode dos or work in a console environment in linux a lot, having jfw on a second souncard is probalby all you need.

This said, I am a firm believer in hardware speech and still using my 11-year-old keynote external. Aside from loving the speech, I find it a bit more responsive than using eloquence.

Hi listers!

I'm considering purchasing a hardware synthesizer to work with jaws and I want to be able to control the volume of the voices independently of my sound card as I use my PC for music playback and recording.

I'm after recommendations of reliable and good quality hardware synthes, preferably USB, which I'd assume most are now anyway.

The most important thing is clarity of speech. I love the eloquence speech engine, so something comparable to that would be great.

Thank you so much in advance.
