I've done that, and helpfully JAWS tells me there's no authorisation.  Does
adding memory to a PC mean that the old authorisation isn't recognised, and
if so is there a way to recover the situation?

Go into JAWS, Tools submenu, and there find ILM Authorization Viewer and
enter.  It will tell you about your current ILM status.  If you get a
prompt from your firewall because of running it, allow it to run.  You
will also find, in the JAWS help Submenu, Authorization Update.  As for
your computer not going much faster, revert to JAWS6 and see if that
improves the situation.
