It's good to have some input from someone who can give some
practical advice on this. The emails I looked at were with Outlook and in
plain text, which would possibly account for the more stable results I
appeared to get.

I understand completely your point about the bright white effect
that can come out of inverting colours in monochrome. Out of interest, do
you use the combination of Lunar and Jaws for any reason? Without any sight,
it's difficult to say, but I'd imagine that screen magnification with speech
in one would be of more advantage? I guess it must be a fine tip over point
between using magnification as your primary technology and moving to rely on
speech entirely.

Regards,
Léonie.

Hi,

Unfortunately my tests have not been so good - I quite often use high
contrast colour when doing certain things, or when my eyes get tired, and I
find that Jaws speech gets quite erratic at times - more so in high contrast
colour than in standard colour - especially when selecting items. Also,
Jaws is by no means the only program which misbehaves in this setting -
Outlook/Outlook Express also do very strange things in this mode, including
messing up HTML emails, and even sometimes printing in black!

This is why I still use Lunar for this type of colouring, plus the fact it
is more intelligent than using Windows high contrast, for example, I set it
to change back to standard colours when on web pages and when using photo
software, and also I don't always want white on black, imagine the Windows
desktop with no photograph on it, this is usually a black screen, if you
inverse this you will get bright white.

Hope this helps some people.
Andrew.

Against my better judgment, I've taken a look at Jaws 9.0 with
inverse colouring. The results are encouraging. Brian's absolutely right,
it's difficult to accept a half assed answer, but perhaps he could explain
to me why I should be the one to provide that answer?

Dear Dorothy:

While you do raise good points about Leonie on the Jaws-UK list, I fear you
are flogging a dead horse trying to get more of an answer from Leonie.

Your best thing to do is probably to just drop the subject entirely.
Otherwise Leonie and George et al are very likely to consider your further
messages on the topic provocative, argumentative and a personal attack,
getting you booted off of the list.

I know its hard to just accept a half-assed answer, but sometimes its all
you're going to get and prying further is just counter productive.

Take care.
