It wouldn't update that way on mine either. The best way is to go to the website, and follow the steps. You'll need your installation cd for the numbers, and then you'll get a download link emailed to you. If you prefer, you can also call and they'll send you a CD for a charge (minimal). http://www.nuance.com/vista/

Because 9.5 is free, I would recommend upgrading as it works better with Office 2007 and with Vista if you have it (we don't). We just upgraded.
