Hi,

What microphone would you recomand both in terms of wired and wireless? Are
the wireless bluetooth connected?

I am looking for something that is comfortable and perhaps stereo if
possable.

How about a usb soundcard, is that a good investment in any case?

Regards
Arne

Paula,

A couple of questions: Check the version of J-Say. I'm thinking that it
should be 3 or 4, not 7. The version of JAWS, Dragon, and J-Say must be the
correct ones for everything to work properly. I don't remember all of the
matching versions but maybe someone who has kept track can help you with
that.

When the person tried upgrading to JAWS 8 did he or she uninstall JAWS 7.x?
If so, it will be necessary to run a repair on J-Say.

What baffles me is that this does not explain why Dragon is not hearing
anything through the microphone. This might be a little unconventional but
I check microphones by trying to record something with Sound Recorder found
in the Entertainment subgroup of Accessories. You could also try running
the Audio Setup Wizard of Dragon. This will check the volume and quality of
the sound the computer is hearing from the microphone. You can find this in
Dragon, in the Tools menu, in the Accuracy Center.

Give those things a try. If you can't hear anything with Sound recorder or
Dragon does not pass your volume and quality tests you may need to get a new
microphone. Pranav had good sugggestions.

Hi Pranav

I don't know what the sound card is so will find out. The headset is one I
had not seen before. It has Parrott written on it with the address
www.vxicorp.Com. I wondered if this was the problem but as I say, it did
work for a time.

Cheers
Paula.

Paula,

What microphone and sound card is your client using? See my response to Arne
for details.

Subject: [j-say list] Microphone issues

Hi

I have recently started working with a person who has been set up with Jaws,
J-Say and Dragon about eighteen months ago. It worked for a while but now we
have some issues. The person is using Jaws 7.0, J-Say pro version 7 and
Dragon pro 8. He has XP with Service Pack 2. The microphone does not seem to
be feeding through information. It shows visually that it is working once we
added boost but the test said we should hear something back through the
speakers or headphones but this does not happen. Any ideas on what might be
wrong? Everything appears to be plugged in correctly. Even when we managed
to wake up the microphone by using a mouse it did not respond to any voice
commands. I am new at seeing the system running so am not sure how to
rectify the situation. I know the person tried upgrading to Jaws 8 which was
unsuccessful so they went back to 7 and could this have caused an issue?

Cheers
Paula.
