I would caution against using these at all, except for...
Alt-break kills a frozen task (usually).
But try Esc first. You'd be surprised how often that works.

Also, a better option is often a complete restart, if you can get to the Task Manager, so use the Shutdown menu option instead. Use Ctrl-Shift-F12 if you can't see the screen. Press Return a few times if nothing happens- to answer the 'Do you really want to quit?' prompts in the affirmative. You can also use the 'press Return' trick (after a 2 second delay, to allow things to shut down) to restart as well.
