Dear Elwyn,

Have I got in first? There may well be a chorus of people saying
"check the power supply". Failure of the Ethernet card seems to be
the first symptom of a dodgy power supply - it certainly was for me.

Though nobody seems to know quite why, the 5v rail should measure
5.04v (if I remember) on a digital meter.
