Yes as with all LCDs they are best viewed at 1:1 i.e. the actual resolution
of the LCD elements.

The question (like with HD TV) is what does the picture look like at other
resolutions say 1024x768 on a 1440x900 Wide screen or a 1280x1024 monitor.

Non wide screen monitors will normally display lower resolutions full screen
which will mean a 1280x1024 monitor displays 1024x768 with slight elipses
for circles as the aspect ratio is different.

With wide screen monitors display of 4:3 or 5:4 modes the stretching of
circles would be much more marked if displayed edge to edge.
We did once see an LCD that could display lower resolutions at 1:1 but that
meant that 800x600 had a very large black area around the image:-(

For people with poor eye sight LCD are a big problem unless it is so bad
they need 640x512 which will display 2:1 on a 17" or 19"
or 800x600 on the now rare 20" 1600x1200 LCD's
The only altenative is a non 1:1 (desktop pixel:displayed pixel) which to me
isn't as bad as I think it sounds.
